TEMPLE GUIDELINES

Conduct

In order to create and maintain a conducive environment for individuals to develop loving-kindness and compassion toward all sentient beings and realize the luminous nature of mind, we ask visitors to abide by the following rules of conduct:

1) Protect all life including animals and insects;
2) Refrain from discursive speech and creating discord in the Sangha;
3) Refrain from sexual misconduct;
4) Refrain from taking what is not given; and
5) Refrain from smoking and intoxicants of any kind.

Appropriate Dress

As a sacred space, please dress appropriately as you feel comfortable, yet humble and respectful, as you would when entering any place of worship.  Remove hats and avoid revealing clothing, such as tank tops, short skirts, shorts, and the like inappropriate attire in the temple.

Dharma Materials

Please avoid placing Dharma materials or books on the floor, and avoid stepping over them.

Food & Beverages

Only water bottles are permitted and no open cups of any liquid in the shrine hall.  Please kindly clean up and trash immediately after use in order to keep the temple clean and healthy.

Mindful Awareness

Garchen Rinpoche always reminds everyone to maintain mindful awareness at all times in the temple.

Please turn off or mute your cell phone, refrain from texting or talking/whispering during teachings and practices.

Please remove shoes upon entry and put them on the shoe rack outside the temple.

Welcome to Drikung Dharma Surya Temple

Everyone from all walks of faith is welcome. “It doesn’t matter whether one calls oneself a Buddhist or not a Buddhist. The Dharma is Love. Love is the only cause of happiness. Its nature is all-pervasive like space. Love is the sunlight of the mind”, Garchen Rinpoche said.

Our resident spiritual masters are ordained monk and nun, and are referred to as Venerable.
